Summer, Summer, Summertime…
As the seasonal calendar officially flips from spring to summer, it seems like a perfect time to kick off the CMGC website blog! After all, golf season is in full swing, and there is plenty to be excited about here at The Mill!

First and foremost, let's discuss the golf course. As many of y'all know, the past few months here in the Greater Baton Rouge Area have been extremely wet. With all the rain, the golf course conditions here at Copper Mill were a bit compromised. Our greens were hit pretty hard with algae, causing turf loss, and extremely uneven putting surfaces, that made enjoying a round of golf, quite a bit cumbersome. We addressed the issue right after Memorial Day Weekend with a full aerification of the greens. This included pulling cores and a double application of topdressing following. We have also been on a strict vertical mowing program since aerification, and I am happy to report that efforts have proven very effective! Our greens have rebounded from not only aerification in May, but also the algae issues that plagued the course for a good part of the spring. The next step will be to lower the height of cut a bit in the weeks to come, and speed the putting surfaces back up to where we would normally have them for the summer months. We appreciate the patience and support many of our loyal customers have shown during the past few months. No one was more frustrated with the situation than our maintenance staff, and I can assure you, that they worked very hard over the past few weeks to get the greens to respond.

In terms of the maintenance staff, we are excited to welcome our New Superintendent, Thomas Eschete to the staff here at Copper Mill. He took over the maintenance operation on June 6th.  Thomas is a 28 year veteran of the golf industry, who most recently spent time at The Bridges at Hollywood Casino Resort in Bay St. Louis, MS, and Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, LA. Thomas is excited to be joining the Billy Casper Golf Team, and more importantly the family here at Copper Mill.

July is just around the corner, and that means time to celebrate the birthday of our great country! We have quite a bit planned for the Holiday Weekend here at the club. We have a very Patriotic Twilight Special for the weekend, that includes a Green Fee w/Cart for only $17.76 plus tax (see what we did there)! That can be found here on the website and on Golfnow. Saturday July 4th, the club is hosting two events. First we have a 4th of July Flag Outing. This is a Net event, where you tee off Hole #1 with a flag. When you reach your handicap stroke, you plant your flag at that spot on the course. Furthest Flag from the first tee wins! Afterwards participants are invited to the club's 4th of July Cookout! We will have plenty of activities for both adults and kids, that include a Spacewalk, Sac  Races, Bingo, Horseshoes, and Music. The event is open to Flag Outing participants, Copper Mill Members, and Copper Mill Residents.

Other upcoming events here at The Mill include:

Copper Mill Member-Guest on July 18th & 19th
