MGA Organizational Meeting

On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, the Copper Mill Men's Golf Association held their Organizational Meeting in the Palmetto Grill. This was the kickoff session for what is hopefully going to be an exciting 2016 Season.

The meeting started off with Shelton Watts doing a brief welcome and then the group did individual introductions, as there were quite a few new faces that turned out for the event. Shorty after, CMGC General Manager, Brian Jones, took the floor for a few moments to welcome the guests and update everyone on club happenings. He took the time to comment on the club's previous two events, the Mad Turkey Scramble and the recently concluded Reindeer Games, which were viewed as very successful and should carry some momentum over for the MGA as planning for 2016 begins. He also took the time to touch on upcoming events, which included a Two Player Shamble on NFL Championship Sunday, which is January 24, 2016. He also touched on the Club's Sweetheart Scramble which is set to take place on Valentine's Day of next year.

After Jones concluded, Superintendent, Thomas Eschete, was introduced to the group. He took a few minutes to thank the MGA for the generous donation of $2,000 that they made in the fall of 2015. He explained that the club was able to use those finds to upgrade the course amenities package by making new tee markers, repairing a few of the bridges that had been damaged over the past year, as well as purchase new flags for the course, that had been imprinted with the MGA logo. Eschete also took questions from the group, before touching on a few of the maintenance projects for the upcoming season, which included addressing the tee box on Hole #2. He told the gathering that the staff had already began to drop trees and clear underbrush from the area in an attempt to create more air circulation and allow more sunlight to the area.

The final speaker to address the group last evening was Copper Mill HOA Board Member, Jay Hass. Mr. Hass spoke to the audience about where the Copper Mill HOA currently stands with plans for a new clubhouse facility. He showed a slide show that laid out two options the HOA board is currently discussing, but admitted that currently a final decision has not been agreed upon. Both options would be a nice upgrade for Copper Mill, and would offer members and guests a newer and more modern area to meet after their round. It will be exciting to hear updates on how the planning is going as the 2016 season approaches.

Finally, the CMGC MGA had annual election of officers. Jim Hazlett was re-elected as Treasurer for the MGA. He will be joined by newly elected officers Worth Thompson (Secretary), Kevin Laird (Vice President), and Gary Fisher (President).
